Diesel Engine Safety Solutions

Hydrocarbons drawn into diesel engines through the air intake system act as an uncontrolled fuel source and can lead to dangerous engine overspeed or runaway. The most effective way to prevent engine runaway is to shut off the air intake into the engine.  AMOT has an extensive line of air intake shutoff valve systems and auxiliary equipment available.

System Selection Guide

System Selection Guide

AMOT has a wide range of fully automatic and manual shutoff systems. This System Selection Guide provides an overview of the more common types of air intake shutoff systems used to prevent diesel engine overspeed or runaway. The system guides available in the Document tab provide information on additional types of systems available within each brand line.

Air Intake Shutoff Valves

Air Intake Shutoff Valves

Air intake shutoff valves (often referred to as AISV or ASOV) and systems provide emergency overspeed shutdown protection for diesel engines and are the most effective way of preventing a runaway situation. The valves completely block the engine air intake system, cutting off an uncontrolled external fuel source and the air required to keep the engine running.

Flameproof Alternators

Flameproof Alternators

Standard automotive type alternators are a continuous potential source of ignition when operated in hazardous atmospheres where combustible concentrations of gas, vapors, or dust may exist. AMOT offers a range of ATEX Group I mining and Group II hazardous area approved flameproof alternators which mount on diesel engines as direct replacements for standard alternators.

Spark Arrestors

Spark Arrestors

Spark arrestors are a key safety requirement for diesel engine exhaust systems where a stray spark may cause ignition of combustible material. Spark arrestors are required in gas, vapor or dust hazardous area applications such as mining, surface, or off-shore processes as well as forestry or agricultural applications.

Diesel Engine Safety Systems

Control Systems

AMOT has over 40 years experience in the design, manufacture, certification and commissioning of diesel engine safety control systems. Underpinning that experience is a deep knowledge of the international notified bodies for hazardous area classification such as BS EN 60079, ATEX, CENELEC, IEC 60079, IECex, NEC 500/505 and NFPA.
