With the engine running under normal conditions, the operation of the fuel shutoff valve is completely automatic. On loss of lubricating oil pressure, the fuel supply is either cut off to stop the engine or reduced by an optional, field adjustable needle valve to run the engine at idle speed. To start, the valve reset knob must be set at the ‘start’ position. After the engine starts the reset knob will automatically go to the run position if the valve is equipped with auto reset latch dropout. If the valve is not equipped with auto reset latch, the dropout knob must be held in start position until oil pressure builds, when released the knob will automatically go to the run position.
The 4164 Hydro-Mechanical Diesel Fuel Shut Off Valve is designed to cut the fuel supply to an engine to protect it from damage if its running parameters are exceeded. Two versions of the valve are available. One cuts the fuel supply completely, stopping the engine. The other has an adjustable needle valve that allows sufficient fuel flow to run the engine at an adjustable idle speed.
