AMOT becomes Siemens 'Solution Partner' for control systems
February 2008

AMOT has been named as a member of the 'Siemens Solution Partner Automation Scheme', a programme developed by Siemens to officially recognise select companies with the control systems experience to ensure reliable provision of individual technical solutions.

'Solution Partners possess the expertise to develop secure, economical and future-proof solutions,' explained Stephen Hughes Siemens Channel Manager, 'for every sector of the process industry and every process automation component.'

Dedicated system solutions provided by AMOT include experience in Siemens SIMATIC S5 & S7 systems, Quadlog PLCs and WIN CC SCADA integration.  Its proven expertise ranges from the S7-200 range for cost-effective small solution to S7-300 failsafe units and up to the S7-400 failsafe and redundant FH systems incorporated into overall SIL compliant solutions.

Hazardous area control panels are central to Malaysian oil terminal rejuvenation

December 2005

AMOT and Petra Resources, the Malaysian integrated oil and gas industry service provider, have worked together successfully on a $1m contract for rejuvenation work at Petronas Carigali's Miri crude oil terminal.

The project started when Shell Sarawak decided to close down its fire station at Lutong.  Petronas was implementing a rejuvenation project for its Miri terminal and decided to use the fire station's old water pumps in a new facility at the terminal.  This comprised one motor and two diesel driven units and 15-year-old relay type local control panels which needed replacement.

Petra, working with AMOT, secured the turnkey contract with Petronas to relocate all three units, supply and install the new control systems.  This included converting the motor unit to diesel and replacing all the LCPs and field instrumentation with new AMOT products, plus a full mechanical overhaul of engines and pumps.

For the control systems, AMOT supplied local control panels that were certified for Zone 2 installation, using the restricted breathing protection method.  Restricted breathing is a protection technique normally applied to small enclosures, but AMOT has successfully developed this capability for large control systems, thus enabling a more cost-effective solution than using flameproof or intrinsically safe protection.

Despite a very tight schedule of five months since the terminal rejuvenation was already underway, the project work was completed successfully in time.

This included an AMOT service engineer attending site for a three week period to supervise installation, complete commissioning and handover for the three units of new LCP and the field instrumentation.

Controller combines PLC power with exceptional ease of use

September 2004

AMOT's new TomaHawk 8635A programmable logic controller combines the power of a PLC with the ease of use of an embedded controller, introducing a simple and flexible programming concept that allows custom and/or pre-programmed applications to be combined and tailored to exact user needs.

With 120 I/O points, two ModBus communications ports, a tachometer input, a 4-line 80-character backit display and a tactile keypad, it is suitaable for use with engines, turbines, compressors, generators and other equipment in the most demanding hazardous area applications.

Temperature valves have high rating for enhanced performance

March 2004

The AMOT EL internally sensed temperature control valve has a much higher pressure rating than the previous EO model, with a new 24 bar (355 psi) rating and a greatly enhanced performance in providing reliable automatic control of fluid temperatures in areas of high vibration and extreme ambient conditions.

This high-pressure cast iron valve is available in a 1 in unit ideal for such applications as cooling water and lubricating oil circuits on diesel engines, compressors or gearboxes and also offered to meet offshore requirements. It can be mounted in any position and has a positive proportional action.

The AMOT E Valve range combines low friction characteristics with vibration/shock resistance and a rugged, robust construction for long life. The tamper-proof and environmentally friendly valves have flow rates from 8 to 18m3/hr and can be used for diverting or mixing operations.

The EL threaded model is fully interchangeable with the EO valve it replaces, using the same spare parts. There are also flanged models and a type with manual override. Body material choices are bronze, cast Iron, steel and stainless steel and seal options include Nitrile, Viton and Neoprene.
