Operation

AMOT Model 4021 is a 3-way control valve for limiting or sequence function service. It is used to sense the temperature of engine cooling water, lubricating oil, high pressure gas, or other fluids between 75°F and 225°F. Extensions are available to accommodate installation depths up to five inches. Stainless steel wells are also available. The 4021 is set at the factory so that the center Port 2 will just open to Port 1 and trip an AMOT Model 2400 Indicating Relay at the specified set temperature on the temperature rising cycle. In order to avoid a no-flow possibility on certain safety control applications, the valve is equipped with a spool which produces "Valve Port Overlap" at the center of the stroke. At this point, all ports are open to each other. As the spool travels slightly farther, Port 3 will close, and port 1 will remain open to Port 2.

For special applications in which "Valve Port Overlap" is not desired, a special feature is available called "Center Dead Spot". In this case a special spool is furnished. Below the temperature set point, Port 3 is open to Port 2 with enough capacity to trip an AMOT Model 2400 Indicating Relay. Because the valve has a " Center Dead Spot ", Port 3 will close to Port 2 just before Port 1 opens to Port 2 on rising temperature.

The temperature sensing element should not be ex-posed continuously to temperatures exceeding 50° F above the temperature setting. For occasional short periods such as 1/2 hour, exposure to 75° F above the temperature setting, but not exceeding 250° F can be tolerated.
